“TIME OF THE STARVATION MOON”

This white “costume” represents a time in the life of ancient peoples when starvation was at its most severe: late winter or very early spring. The snows were still upon them, plants and animals had not yet reappreared, and their stores of food were exhausted. Wolves and men competed for the little remaining foodstuffs. Each seeking to survive one more winter season. The wolf beads have yellow eyes: dangerous eyes to a starving hunter.

Materials used are silk and pearl cotton, woven in a double weave (two layers at once). The ceramic, painted wolf heads are adorned with wooden and silver beads, bone beads, and leather strips.
