This is a fantasy costume. When looking at the full moon in the desert, it is easy to imagine people dancing in the moonlight. After all, everyone gets a little weird during a full moon...
The moon was fun to paint. The background colors include several shades of blue, buff yellow, and iridescent silver. The black sky is composed of dark umber, deep purple and a sap green. For the mountains and craters, a heavy gel medium was mixed with the silver paint. A piece of rumpled wax paper was pushed into the paint mixture, and then squished on the canvas. When the paper was lifted, it left a glop of paint, like a mountain or crater.
The weaving structure of the costume is a fairly complex fabric. It is basically a twill, combined with plain weave, and then "doctored". Materials include novelty yarns and cottons.
