“SQUARES”

This costume was a color study: how to mix orange, pink, coral, and wine. Also how to blend a variety of fibers: cottons, rayon/linen blends, a rayon/polyester, and a glitter (Lurex?) blend. This can also be termed: “Using up the yarn closet”.

The weave structure is basically an eight shaft twill variation originally published in 1962 by Robin & Russ in Santa Barbara, California, and later of Oregon. I also used two more shafts for the selvage. Notice that the squares are larger on the body, and the neckpiece, which is the reverse side of the fabric, has smaller squares.

The buttons are from my collection, as well as the wooden beads. More “using up”.
